ASEAN and Obama

In this Irrawaddy Magazine essay (recommended by the Consul General), veteran Thai journalist Kavi Chongkittavorn lists “Ten Reasons ASEAN prefers Obama”. Assuming that indeed President Obama attends the East Asia Summit this month, his visit to Phnom Penh will be the US leader’s first overseas trip since his re-election. Obama’s poll victory should mean that the “pivot to Asia” will continue, but could events in the Middle East and domestic affairs in the US derail the initiative?
